Malekula

Ahwoo. Ship traveling in Vanuatu. For two weekends we’ve tried to get to Malekula and for two weeks we’ve failed. The first weekend, having found out that all the ships left on Thursday due to the proliferation of SDA (Seventh Day Adventists) amongst the crews, and therefore there were no ships on Friday Night. I had to be in town for soccer commitments, but we thought we had it sussed for the following weekend. Off we went, down to Melcoffee and Simonsons Wharves on the following Wednesday to check the ships. We found one, laden with copra, which was leaving on Thursday at midnight, and was prepared to take us, even offering to help to arrange a transport when we got there. So to LCM (local supermarket) and the markets to get supplies on Thursday, up to Totel Kava Bar to catch up with people and pass a few hours until the ship left. At 10pm we headed to the wharf only to find that the ship had left at8.30pm. Quite the opposite of what is expected given Vanuatu time. C’est la vie.
